The Chamber of secrets is the second series of Harry Potter. It starts with Uncle Vernom and Harry arguing about his owl, Hedwig. Due to the scream of Dudley in the middle, the topic is dismissed within the air. Then, Uncle Vernom prepares his family for welcoming his possible business partner Mr. and Mrs. Mason. Harry, like always is asked to act as if he doesn’t exists. So, when the guests arrived he heads straight off to his bed, making sure he doesn’t make his presence felt. But, he finds himself face to face with a house-elf, right after he steps into his room. He, Dobby, happens to be small with long ears and states that he is there to warn Harry and stop him from coming back to Hogwarts. They have a little argument that leads to Dobby running down to kitchen and drop the cake on Mrs. Masons’ head so that as a consequence Harry wouldn’t be allowed back to school. Harry gets locked up as a punishment. But in the middle of the night, Ron with his twin brothers come for his rescue driving their Dad’s flying car. At the same moment he also comes across a note written on the wall. “The Chamber has been opened, enemies of the heir be aware.” During the match, a wild bludger hits Harry and he breaks his arm after falling from his broom. He ends up in hospital where he is visited by Dobby again. The house-elf admits that he closed the portal at the station and bewitched the bludger. A student, Colin Creevery ends up Petrified and Harry learns that the Chamber of Secrets was opened fifty years before.
Professor Lockhart starts a Dueling Club. After, the demonstration between Snape and Lockhart, Harry and Draco gets chosen next. When Draco Malfoy sets a serpent against Harry, stops it from attacking Justin by speaking in parseltongue. But, the students suspect that he was setting the snake on him. Later, Ron and Hermione, questions him about why he didn’t mention to them that he could speak the snake language, Parseltongue. They then say that everyone suspects him of being the heir of Slytherin as Salazar Slytherin – the head of the house could only speak Parseltongue. The rumor intensifies when Harry finds Justin Finch-Fletchleyand the Gryffindor ghost, The Nearly Headless Nick Petrified.
Hermione brews a Polyjuice Potion so they can transform into Malfoy’s friends and get their enemy to admit that he is the real heir. But the boys discover that Draco does not know who is opening the Chamber. Ron and Harry find Moaning Myrtle crying; one of the ghost, who mentions about a diary falling on her head. The diary was empty, which makes Harry curious and he starts writing in it. Every time he writes, the diary writes back. That is how he finds out that a boy named Tom Riddle enchanted the diary. Through it Harry sees Hagrid, fifty years earlier, accused of setting a giant spider onto a girl and killing her.
When Hermione and another girl are Petrified, Ron and Harry use an invisible cloak to get to Hagrid’s hut. Hidden behind the cloak they hear the Minister of Magic arresting Hagrid and removing Dumbledore as headmaster. Hagrid then as if talking to himself;instructs Ron and Harry to follow the spiders. When they do as they were told, it leads the boys into the Forbidden Forest. Here Ron and Harry are captured by a colony of giant spiders. The leader, Aragog, admits that he is Hagrid’s monster. He also states that he didn’t kill any human and as per the Chamber that opened years ago, the girl was killed in the bathroom and he only stayed inHagrid’s cupboard. He knew about the monster but he refused to mention it.The boys found out that the monster’s victim could be Moaning Myrtle, now a ghost in the toilets.
During a visit to Hermione, Ron and Harry find a piece of paper in her hand bearing the word ‘basilisk’. Their friend had discovered the identity of the real monster. They are excited about it but then a panic is striken when teachers find out that Ginny Weasley is abducted.
Ron and Harry decide it is time to act, so they take Professor Lockhart to Moaning Myrtle’s toilet and there they find a secret passage through one of the sinks. The boys and their hapless teacher go down the passageway. Lockhart tries to bewitch them but the curse falls on himself that results in him – losing all the memories. Ron and Harry are separated, and Harry decides to enter the chamber alone.
Harry finds Ginny alive, but he also meets Tom Riddle. The latter admits that he is Lord Voldermort, the last heir of Slytherin. He explains how Ginny found his diary and wrote her heart out on it and how he managed to posses her. Then, he sets the basilisk onto Harry. Dumbledore’s phoenix enters the chamber and drops the Sorting Hat in Harry’s hands, whilst it punctures the basilisk’s eyes. In the Sorting Hat, Harry finds Gryffindor’s sword and with it kills the snake. The wizard destroys Tom Riddle by pushing the basilisk’s poisonous fang into the diary.
Back in Dumbledore’s office, Harry tells his story. Lucius Malfoy, furious that the headmaster is back, is accused of giving Ginny the bewitched diary. Harry summons Mr. Malfoy and hands his a smelly sock. Lucius gets mad and throws it off which Dobby catches. Dobby is all happy that he caught the socks and now is free to go. Lucius blames Harry for tricking him in freeing his servant, Dobby. Dobby thanks him and disappears. The students celebrate with a midnight feast and Gryffindor win the House Cup for the second time running. Like the first book, the story ends with Harry going back to the Dursley’s.
It is always easy to talk big, however, it is much more difficult to do it. Either small or big, lies are always lies. Sooner or later, the curtain to lies withdraws itself naturally. And lastly, every person has a secret and it is wise enough to keep it to yourself. The more they know the easier it becomes to attack which is why the people who are close to us know exactly which buttons to press in order to drag you down.
