Sushant and The physique workshop has been one of the change bringers in the fitness industry. With a new take on fitness and the way you do it, the physique workshop has already leveled up the fitness scene here in Nepal. With two branches (Kumaripati and Kamaladi) of the physique workshop; the only way they are heading is up. Sushant is not only breaking the traditional ways and methods but covering the whole fitness industry and not just a part of it. Here are some questions and its answers that came up during our meet:
How did the idea emerge?
It all dates back to my transformation; back tracing a little back we now arrive to the point when I was in my high school, a skinny Sushant weighing just 47 kgs. Back then I just wanted to be normal. Normal in the sense that I didn’t wanted to be this super skinny kid in the block. Now this determination took me towards the gym halls and the fitness lifestyle. The beginning is always the hardest but gradually the pain, the sweat, the workouts started paying off. People witnessing this transformation in me started to ask for advice and quick tips for gaining muscles and workout routines.
I was doing my workouts and giving advice and tips to those asking for it; now, see I started out to be this normal guy trying to leave the skinny kid behind but during this journey of transformation a passion had ignited in me.
Coming from a family who has never done business and myself having little knowledge on the same subject it was quite challenging and exciting at the same time. Now it all started to shape when in my 7th semester I had entrepreneurship as my subject and the fire inside me was burning even more; while everybody else was doing intern in IT companies I was doing my internship in gym. My teachers had been noticing this and so were my friends and everybody rooted for the direction I was heading to. The support motivated me even more and at that time the fitness industry was still growing and still is growing in many ways; at that point of time I figured out that the passion and the hard work will definitely pay off as I have experienced both the work and its results first-hand; with this I started, what we now all know as “THE PHYSIQUE WORKSHOP.”
How did you come with the name “THE PHYSIQUE WORKSHOP?”
Back when I started, gyms used to be named after either places or the name of the person opening up such places. Now the way I perceive is gym is a place where you work on your body, which is the physique and that, is how I came up with the name “THE PHYSIQUE WORKSHOP”.
What were the challenges for you in the personal sense while stating this venture?
Since my idea was still a vague concept for a lot of people and coming from a background is education is valued over anything it was hard to let people know what actually was I doing. And, gyms and fitness training not being among the things that people were excited for; many of my relatives were more skeptical as I was pursuing fitness as a full time career over IT. But I was backed so positively by my friends and my parents that it pushed me towards going forward and not back.
The other was, I had little to no knowledge of setting up gym, knowing the right places to get my equipment it was a blind free fall but gradually I gained the knowledge necessary and everything started shaping up eventually.
What were the challenges for you in the professional sense while stating this venture?
Now since I come from a “no business ever done background” and I having little knowledge on management; it was hard in the beginning to grasp about marketing, branding and management. Additionally, the total workload was on my shoulders as I was working all round the workshop from managing the client and the place to training people, making vlogs and scribbling articles; doing all that was a challenge for me in the beginning.
Another major challenge was that of convincing people that I know what I am doing regardless of my age because see, here in Nepal the fitness scene when I started was dominated people who had been doing it for more than a decade and people from bodybuilding background it was really hard to make people to take me seriously and as I was trying to break the conventional ways of doing fitness; educating people through the medium of text and video was yet another challenge as fitness was not that much of a noticed subject then.
In your professional opinion, what do you have to say about the all time famous quote “NO PAIN NO GAIN”; fact or myth?
It is all about your perception and attitude towards it. No pain No gain for me means that you have to push it whether that be in gym with the weights and your body or in real life pushing through your limits, breaking barriers and tackling the obstacles that comes your way. BUT again, this DOES NOT mean you push yourself to the verge of exhaustion.
What do you want to say to people who are taking their first steps towards the fit life?
The first step is always the hardest and a lot of times people feel intimated towards going to gyms as there are these ripped muscular guys BUT the thing is they were not what they are today; everybody starts small and gradually your progress will lift you up; that is a guarantee. There is no reason to belittle yourself. Everybody who comes to places like these are the ones who are working on themselves and you should do the same without fearing or shaming yourself mentally and above all you are here to make yourself fit and you should be a hundred percent focused on that goal of yours; let others do what they are doing. YOU DO YOU.
What do you want to say to people who are starting their entrepreneurial journey and are on the same journey as yours?
I would like to point out on two things: CONSISTENCY AND PURPOSE.
You have to be consistent on what you are doing because there are people who are observing, reading and relying on the content that you are providing; there is no need to exhaust yourself but there definitely should be the desire in yourself to be consistent.
A lot of moments come across where you might be questioning yourself as to what is it that you are doing, is this content or idea going to be of value, is this really the thing that I should doing? Now, when these questions comes you need to remember why you started; the purpose of what you are doing and counter it with answers of questions such what was your vision when you started, where are you at that very point, is there something you need to change and how far have you come.
Any opportunity to work with you in your present or future projects?
Yes, definitely. I am looking for people with marketing and branding know how, I am looking for fitness writers where the knowledge the person has on fitness is being shared and the fitness education is imparted and multiplied. If interested, please do connect with us on our Facebook.
